Welsh Cookies

 

6 cups flour                            2 cups sugar

1 lb crisco                            1/2 cup milk

3 eggs                                  1/2 tsp salt

1 tsp baking soda                  1 tsp cream of tarter

1 tsp nutmeg                          2 tsp. baking powder

3/4 cup currants

 

Sift the dry ingredients(excluding sugar) together in a large mixing bowl.  Add the crisco and mix with your fingers until the mix looks like breadcrumbs.

Stir in the sugar and currants, beat the eggs and add the milk.

Roll out to 1/4 inch thickness and cut out with a small round glass,  Bake on a medium to hot griddle for about 3 minutes per side or until golden brown.  Remove with spatula onto waxed paper.  Sprinkle with confectioners sugar.
